Before You Get In: Frequently Asked Questions
A few minutes at the pool edge with these answers, and you will know exactly where to step in.
How do the three levels work?
Level 1, Start Swim Skills, introduces babies to water with floats and splash mats. Level 2, Build Swim Skills, uses tot trainers and then swim trainer vests. Level 3, Refine Swim Skills, is real strokes with less and less support, with the M/L vest for growing swimmers. Move up when your child is ready.
My child is between levels. Which one do I choose?
Choose the level that matches what your child does comfortably today, not what you hope for by August. Confidence comes from success at the current step. If you are still unsure, try the picker on our home page or email us.
What is the difference between S/M and M/L vests?
It is a matter of weight. Size S/M is made for swimmers up to 33 lb, and size M/L is made for swimmers up to 50 lb. Both use Flex-Form foam and an adjustable safety strap, and both should fit snugly.
Do you make gear for adults?
Our swim training gear is for babies, toddlers and kids. For the grown-ups, the Pool Gear shelf has the Monterey 4-in-1 hammock pool float, along with Aqua air pumps that make inflating everything else far easier.
Are swim trainers life jackets?
No. Swim trainers, floats and vests are learn-to-swim aids, not life-saving devices. They help a child practice in the pool with an adult within arm's reach. They should never be used in place of a life jacket.
Which products are Coast Guard approved?
Only the life jackets on our Life Jackets shelf, the Oceans 7 and Aqua models, are US Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices. They come in infant, child and youth sizes that cover 8-90 lb across the range.
How close do I need to stay?
Within arm's reach, at all times, whenever your child is in or near the water. That applies with every float, trainer and vest we make, in every depth of water. Drowning is fast and quiet, and gear cannot watch a child.
How do I know a vest still fits?
Zip it, clip the safety strap and lift gently at the shoulders. If the vest stays below the chin, it fits. If it slides up, tighten the strap or size down. Check your child's weight against the size limit every season.
Can I buy directly on this site?
No. This site is our catalog. Each product button takes you to our product listing at the partner store, where you can see the current price and place your order. The store handles payment and delivery.
Why might the price differ from what I expected?
Prices and availability are set by the partner store and can change at any time. The price shown on the store's listing when you check out is the one that applies to your order.
How do I return or exchange something?
Returns, exchanges, refunds and warranty claims are handled by the partner store under its policies. Open your order page at the store and start the process there. Try gear on dry first, so it stays in returnable condition.
Who do I contact with a product question?
