Before the first dip

Choose by your baby's age and weight as shown on the listing, not by how roomy the seat looks. Inflate every chamber until firm, check the leg openings sit comfortably, and pick a canopy model if your pool has little shade. Lower your baby in slowly and keep your hands on the float.

When is my baby ready for a float?

Our baby floats are made for roughly 6-24 months. Your baby should hold their head up well and sit with support. Start with short sessions in warm, calm water and end while everyone is still smiling.

Do I really need a canopy?

If you swim outdoors, a canopy is a real help: it shades your baby's head and shoulders while they sit in the float. It is extra cover on top of your usual sun routine, not a replacement for it, and it comes off when you swim in the shade.

Can I let go of the float?

No. A baby float is a learn-to-swim aid, not a life-saving device. Stay in the water, within arm's reach, with your attention on your baby the whole time, even in very shallow water and even for a moment.

SwimSchool baby pool floats with canopy for 6-24 months

A SwimSchool baby pool float is built for one job: making the introduction to water gentle. The seat holds your baby low and stable so the water laps around the tummy and legs, and the wide body of the float gives you an easy place to hold on. Baby pool floats with canopy add shade for sunny pools, and baby boats turn the first swim into a small adventure. All of them belong to Level 1 of our Confidence Building System, Start Swim Skills.

The best baby float is the one that fits today. Follow the age and weight guidance on our product listing, inflate each air chamber fully and check the fit of the seat before you step in. Then slow down: sway, hum, let your baby kick and pat the surface. Those quiet minutes in the shallow end are the foundation every later swim skill stands on, and when your little one starts leaning forward to paddle, the Tot Trainers shelf is the next step.
